STATEMENT
Descriptive
of an Inspirational Artist: Creative
painting is not merely the process of executing
one's medium, such as creating original oil
paintings -- it is the art of transferring one's
feelings from the palette onto the canvas.
Ultimately, when the artist's work is being
observed it will be appreciated for the
inspiration that transpired during its inception.
Creating oil paintings, therefore, simply becomes
a matter of transference of feelings. To put it
succinctly: art without feeling is tantamount to
observing a stained glass window without light,
or a Tiffany lamp without its electricity. Every
oil painting is an original -- each of the oil
paintings becoming developed through a different
attitude! Each time I began painting it was as if
I had experienced what master artists of the past
must have imagined during the process of creating
their impressions. As I kept experimenting with
different techniques it became evident to me that
I had sometimes gotten in touch, spiritually,
with some of these legendary painters. After
allowing this process to flow, I realized I had
found a way to have my images become more in
keeping with the eloquent, spontaneous, brush
strokes of these masters.
Ultimately,
each of the original oil paintings became
manifest, subconsciously, without ever having a
particular theme, or specific image in mind. In
essence, each and every oil painting has been
painstakingly processed, spiritually, as I am
certain those talented artists who have passed
must have experienced. This mysterious connection
actually felt as if it was being transmitted
through my own hand - each piece becoming
developed through a different attitude. At times,
while in the creative zone, it was as if I had
been stimulated by a bolt of immense, positive
electricity. Indeed, I paint forms and shapes
according to spiritual intervention. With the
harmony of a musical concert the colors and
rhythms complement each underlying theme. Without
conscious intention an image may appear as if
awakening from a dreamlike state enforcing the
realty of a mysterious inner life, or
metaphysical world . . . Edward Longo,

SYNDICATED COLUMNIST: For certain, this
artist cannot be pigeonholed – that is to
say each of his artworks, whether they be
paintings, drawings, or sculptures are in a class
of their own. Whether the images are landscapes,
visual impressions, or figments of his
imagination they are highly influenced by the
spiritual realm. His uniqueness is that mostly
every painting becomes manifest, subconsciously,
without ever having a particular theme, or
specific image in mind. Edward Longo's physical
and mental makeup constitutes equal parts of
talent and tenacity. The impetus for his series
of paintings began when, emerging as an
inspirational painter, he realized a strong
connection with master artists of the past. Brush,
or knife in hand, he is able to express, through
God-given ingenuity, experiences that have been
an integral part of the artist for decades.
Early life on
the East Coast brought the artist in contact with
the verdant countryside and elongated shorelines,
inasmuch as brine rolling foam and lusty breezes
became ingrained within the confines of a truly
sensitive spirit. His paintings display attention
to intense colors and geometric shapes of
Abstract Expressionism, while exuding the
Romanticism and the soft brushwork of
Impressionism. Originally from Hartford, CT,
Edward Longo studied architectural drafting and
painting, whereas throughout the past twenty
years he has exhibited his paintings in prominent
Manhattan galleries, hotels, and public spaces.
Currently, the artist lives and works in his
studio located on the upper East side of
Manhattan, New York.
